Edexcel is the UK’s largest awarding body and a part of the Pearson group, the world’s largest education services company. As a work based Centre, the London College of Business offers programmes in Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Information Systems.

These programmes adhere to the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) levels 4, 5 and 7. Progression Learners are able to progress across the range of Level 7 qualifications, from Award to Certificate to Diploma to Extended Diploma. These BTEC qualifications also support Continuing Professional Development (CPD), as well as enabling sideways progression to Masters degrees, such as an MBA, or a Level 7 NVQ in Management.

Entry Requirements A student’s profile is likely to include:

  1. Academic;
  2. Experiential (if applicable);
  3. English.


Academic: An AVCE/GNVQ in an appropriate vocational area Hospitality and (Business, Hospitality and Catering, Travel and Tourism); A BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Business Studies, Hospitality Supervision, or a similar discipline; A GCE Advanced level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject; This profile is to be supported by GCSE grades at A*to C. Any other related level 3 qualifications An access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution.


Experiential: Any related work experience. Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid). Course Brief The course is made up of (11) units , 3 core units, which is mandatory and 8 specialist units leading to the EDSML. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in depth, and there is opportunity to follow a clear specialist pathway. These specialist pathways are recognized in the following endorsed qualification titles: Developing Strategic Management & Leadership Skills Professional Development for Strategic ManagersStrategic Change Management Creative and Innovative Management Strategic Marketing Management Corporate Communication Strategies Managing Corporate Responsibility in the Wider Business Environment Strategic Human Resource Management Strategic Planning Managing Financial Principles and Techniques Research Project Course Assessment EDSML is not exam-based qualification. Instead, students study real life, work based case studies and complete projects and assessment, which contribute to achieving each unit studied. Module tutor internally assesses each unit. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction against each module completed. Once the coursework/assignment is assess by the module tutor then Internal Verifier (IV) will go through to ensure required learning outcomes have been achieved. An independent External Verifier (EV) appointed by Edexcel to grant the qualification then checks this work.

Entry Requirements You will normally need to have at least one of the following:

  • Bachelor Degree in an appropriate area or 5 years of work experience;
  • A BTEC Higher National Diploma in an appropriate area;
  • Minimum 19 years of age.
